Emolid CC: A unique specialty ester-based emollient

Emolid CC is a linear, saturated, highly symmetrical ester, with a low freezing point and derived from 100% natural renewable sources. It is a multifunctional dry and soft touch emollient that offers excellent spreadability and high moisturizing levels. It can be compared with cyclomethicone, but its exhibits improved moisturizing.

The moisturizing levels are maintained during and after application and its penetration instead of evaporation helps to protect the skin, providing natural hydration by reinforcing the natural skin lipid barrier.

Emolid CC keeps hydration, trapping water in the uppermost layers of the skin and protecting against moisture loss. The results in the Graph #1 showed that Emolid CC has a demonstrate ability to enhance skin hydration for leave-on skin care formulations.

Furthermore, Emolid CC shown to be not irritant for the skin. It has excellent biocompatibility with the human body; which makes this ingredient perfectly safe for use in a wade range of skin care products. Specially recommended for daily products for sensitive skin with dryness problems.

Pigment Dispersion and Wetting Properties:

The ability of Emolid CC to wet and disperse inorganic pigments gives to the formulator flexibility to add pigments that can boost SPF factor in sun care products or help in color development for make-up applications.

The pigment dispersing ability was determined by the evaluation method of Wet Point and Fluidity Point. The smaller is the difference between Wet Point and Fluidity Point, the better dispersibility pigment ability of the emollient. Emolid CC has an excellent ability to create fine pigment dispersions.

Sun Care Applications

Emolid CC is an excellent solubilizer for sunscreen actives, allowing the active materials to perform at maximum efficacy in formulations.

Solubility of Crystalline UV filters:

Emolid CC had shown an outstanding ability to prevent the re-crystallization of sunscreens in a formulation. This allows a maximum UV protection as well as an evenly spreading on the skin.

SPF Booster effect:

An in-vitro SPF study was performed on sun care oil formulations with different emollients, including Emolid CC, to compare the SPF booster effect. SPF variation was measured in function of the emollient used in the formulation, where always was maintained the same amount of sunscreen filters. Based on BASF Sunscreen Simulator, theoretical SPF is 30. The results have shown that Emolid CC, when added, increased the SPF of the formulation.
